Historical Note
The Indiana Ordnance Works was built by the DuPont Company for the U.S. Government beginning in 1940. It manufactured military explosives, propellants, and smokeless powder. The name was changed to the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, and it maintained very sizable production through the period of the Vietnam War. By the 1990s, it had become an inactive site, maintaining a capability to manufacture black powder should that need ever arise again.
