Historical Note

Hahn Motor Truck Company was a manufacturer of fire trucks and buses. The company built its own chassis and commercial trucks such as delivery vehicles and construction vehicles. William G. Hahn (1878-1937) began as a carriage maker in Leesport, Pennsylvania. In 1900, he moved his business just a few miles away to Hamburg, Pennsylvania. In 1907, he produced two motorized vehicles: a car and a truck. Hahn decided that trucks would be more profitable and began manufacturing trucks in addition to wagons under the W.G. Hahn & Bro. company moniker.

By 1913 truck production was so popular the company shifted its focus and changed its name again to Hahn Motor Truck & Wagon Co. During World War I, Hahn produced trucks and fire apparatus for the war effort. The company discontinued manufacturing carriages in 1920. Hahn took over the former Bethlehem Motor Truck Company plant in Allentown in 1927 and moved their offices there, although the Hamburg plant was continued until closing in 1989.

Scope and Content

There are three views of an unoccupied Hahn Motor Corporation deluxe bus (two copies of each): two exteriors and one interior. The bus is painted, Pleasure trips and picnics and marked Wm. Frantz, Prop., Minersville, Pa. The photographs were enclosures in an accompanying letter signed by H.F. Dicke, Vice-President, East Penn Traction Company, of which a photocopy exists. Written in 1928 to the General Manager of the East Penn Traction Company of Pottsville, Pennsylvania, it informs him that the bus is for sale for $9,000.00.
