Historical Note
The Louisiana Purchase Exposition or the St. Louis World’s Fair of 1904 as it was popularly called, was put on to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Louisiana Purchase. The centennial celebration was delayed a year to foster greater participation from other countries and states. It was the last significant exposition before World War I. The fair was built on a 1,200 acre site and included exhibitions from sixty-two countries and forty-three of the forty-five states of that day. Exhibitions covered achievements in the fine arts, science, technology, manufacturing, agriculture, government, and education.
Scope and Content
This accordion folded souvenir viewbook contains twenty-five small halftone views of the Louisiana Purchase Exposition. The item was copyrighted by Bernhard M. Graff in 1904. The views are in color and show buildings at the fair.
