Historical Note
The Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company was a manufacturer of cartridge ammunition for fire arms. The Union Metallic Cartridge Company was incorporated in Connecticut in 1867 and constructed a plant at Bridgeport. In 1916 the Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company was incorporated in Connecticut for the purpose of acquiring the stock and business of both the Union Metallic Cartridge Company and the Remington Arms and Ammunition Company of Ilion, N.Y. This firm was reincorporated in Delaware as the Remington Arms Company on May 24, 1920, and was eventually merged into E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Co. in 1980. The Union Metallic Cartridge Company survived as a corporate shell until 1937.

This collection consists of copy photographs of Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company facilities in Bridgeport, Connecticut, including interiors of a laboratory and exteriors of various buildings. Also a drawing and plan of the Union Metallic Cartridge Company (1866) and photographic copies of engraved views of UMC (circa 1880) and Remington Arms-Union Metallic Cartridge Company plant (1917).
