Benjamin Ferris and Thomas Parker watch papers

Benjamin Ferris (1780-1867) and Thomas Parker (1761-1833) were both watchmakers in Philadelphia in the early nineteenth century. These are watch papers which were inserted in early timepieces and included identifying information about the watchmakers. Each paper lists the makers' Philadelphia addresses, includes a short inventory of his goods.

Biographical Note
Benjamin Ferris (1780-1867), author of the one of the earliest books on Delaware history, Early Settlements on the Delaware (1846), was a watchmaker in Philadelphia before his return to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1813. Thomas Parker (1761-1833) is historically notable for selling a gold chronometer to Meriwether Lewis (1774-1809) from the 13 S. Third Street, Philadelphia, shop address shown on his watch paper before the Lewis and Clark Expedition of 1803.
Scope and Content
These are watch papers which were inserted in early timepieces and included identifying information about the watchmakers. Each paper lists the makers' Philadelphia addresses, includes a short inventory of his goods (clocks, watches, chains, seals, keys, glasses), and includes an illustration. Ferris's shows a female figure holding a timepiece and standing beside a globe; Parker's shows a male figure looking through a solar transit.
