Historical Note

Sears, Roebuck & Company is a department store chain. In 1893, Richard Warren Sears (1863-1914) and Alvah Curtis Roebuck (1864-1948) founded the company as a mail-order business. Sears retail stores first opened in 1906.

Scope and Content

Seven pieces of ephemera from Sears, Roebuck and Company. Included are a paper tape measure, a "profit sharing certificate," an order blank, two letters on company letterhead concerning the return of a purchased watch, and two used stamped envelopes.
