Abstract

William H. Bollmann (1927-2023) worked for his entire career at the American Can Company in Jersey City and Edison, New Jersey, finishing his time with the company in South Brunswick, New Jersey, as manager of quality control. This small collection includes photographs and booklets from Bollmann's time at the American Can Company. The materials date from 1951 to 1982.

Biographical Note

William H. Bollmann (1927-2023) worked for his entire career at the American Can Company in Jersey City and Edison, New Jersey, finishing his time with the company in South Brunswick, New Jersey, as manager of quality control.

Bollmann was born in Jersey City to Herman Bollmann (1898-1946) and Henrietta Hoell Bollmann (1901-1990). In 1972, his family moved to Middlesex, New Jersey. Bollman served in the Army twice during World War II and in Korea. Post-retirement from the American Can Company, he worked for the paint company Sherwin-Williams in Middlesex and in South Plainfield, New Jersey, as a driver until his final retirement.

In 1948, he married Martha Nyahay Bollmann (1927-2016); the couple had three children, two sons and one daughter.

Scope and Contents

This small collection includes photographs and booklets from Bollmann's time at the American Can Company. There are images of the 50th-anniversary celebration at the Jersey City Armory; the manager and assistant manager of the Hudson Plant in 1951; the view facing Pulaski Skyway from the roof of the Hudson Plant in 1950; and the first annual supervisors' dinner dance at the Military Park Hotel in Newark, New Jersey, in 1958 (photocopy).

There are also two booklets: "Hudson Plant Family Day" (1960) and "Edison Plant: First Plant in America to Produce 2-Piece Beverage Cans" (1971). There is one newsletter from the South Brunswick Plant, dated June 1982.
