Historical Note

Diesel Equipment Corporation was a designer and manufacturer of fuel injection equipment. The company was initially located at 3932 Diversey Avenue in Chicago, Illinois; in 1937, it moved to the Ravenswood Plant at Montrose and Ravenswood avenues. In 1940, the firm reincorporated as the Aircraft & Diesel Equipment Corporation (ADECO).

During World War II, ADECO prospered from the manufacture of fuel injection equipment and precision tool parts for aircraft. After the war, the Renegotiation Act of 1948 authorized the government to recover excessive profits from national defense contractors. ADECO appealed several times, but the courts ruled in favor of upholding the constitutionality of the act.

ADECO went bankrupt; the Ravenswood Plant and assets were sold at public auction in 1949.
