Biographical Note

James Cortada (1946-) is a management consultant and business historian. Cortada was born in Havana, Cuba. He received his bachelor's degree from Randolph-Macon College in 1969, a Master of Arts from Florida State University in 1970, and a Doctor of Philosophy from Florida State University in 1973.

He served in various positions with International Business Machines (IBM) Corporation between 1974 and 1992. Cortada has authored several books on computer history and the computer industry.

In this interview, James Cortada discusses the collection of computing history books that he donated to Hagley Library. He describes how he acquired the collection, his philosophy on collecting, and some of what he feels are the most important titles in the collection.
