Historical Note
Bowlus-Du Pont Sailplane, Inc. was a short-lived company which combined the financing of record holding glider pilot, Richard du Pont (1911-1943), and the engineering skills of Hawley Bowlus. It was incorporated in 1934. The company built four gliders called the Albatross II from 1934 to 1936 in Wilmington, Delaware.
Scope and Content
This reproduction drawing (there are two copies) includes elevations and cross sections of an Albatross II: Sections A and B (elevations of wings); Section C (cross section of wings); Section D (struts); Section E (rudder); Section F (elevators); Section G (fuselage); Section H (head-on view). The drawing is labeled "Bowlus Du Pont Sailplane Inc., Wilmington, Delaware" and includes the company's logo: a gull with the words "On the Wings of an Albatross."
