Abstract

The Delaware Antiques Show includes guest speakers and antique dealers to display American antiques and decorative arts. Arminda du Pont (1927-1997) was the founder and the first chairperson of the Delaware Antiques Show. Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1869) was a major collector of American decorative arts, his home, became the Winterthur Museum in 1951. This collection includes one candid photograph of Arminda du Pont (Mrs. E. I. du Pont) and Henry Francis du Pont at the 1967 Delaware Antiques Show.

Historical Note

The Delaware Antiques Show includes guest speakers and antique dealers to display American antiques and decorative arts, including furniture, paintings, rugs, ceramics, silver, and jewelry. The Delaware Antiques Show was first held in 1964 at the University of Delaware’s Wilcastle Center on Pennsylvania Avenue.

Arminda du Pont (1927-1997) was the founder and the first chairperson of the Delaware Antiques Show. She served on the Junior Board of Wilmington Hospital among other philanthropic boards.

The show was managed by the Junior Board of Wilmington Hospital and funds raised from the show were donated to the Pediatrics Department and other hospital projects. In 1922, the Junior Board turned over management of the show to Winterthur Museum.

Henry Francis du Pont (1880-1869) was a major collector of American decorative arts of the eighteenth and ninteenth centuries, and the collection, housed in his home, became the Winterthur Museum in 1951.

Scope and Content

This collection includes one candid photograph of Arminda du Pont (Mrs. E. I. du Pont) and Henry Francis du Pont at the 1967 Delaware Antiques Show. The subjects are situated in a conservatory room with a marble floor and abundant foilage in the background. The photograph features two pieces of holloware decorative arts: A small round table supports a silver coffee urn, and Mrs. E.I du Pont holds a smaller silver coffee pot. Both subjects are engaged in conversation.
