Historical Note
Wilmington is the largest city in Delaware located on the Christiana and Brandywine Rivers. Originally colonized by the Swedish, Dutch and English in the seventeenth century. Wilmington was incorporated in 1731 and received a city charter in 1832.
Scope and Content
These are sixteen small, gummed, and perforated stamps showing sepia photographic views of Wilmington, Delaware. The following sights included are: Rockford Tower, Market Street, Du Pont Country Club, Wilmington Country Club, U.S. Post Office at Rodney Square, Rodney Square, Old Swedes Church, Public Library, Du Pont High School, Du Pont Hotel, Delaware Park Race Track, Court House, City Hall, YMCA Building, and unidentified fountain. The stamps which sold for ten cents came with a mailing envelope with glassine window; an adressee insert is included.
