Biographical Note
Francis J. Friel (b. 1894) was the son of a man who worked for Mrs. Lammot du Pont. Friel worked for her as well, driving her into town on Saturdays. He began working in the laboratory at the Experimental Station in 1911, primarily with nitroglycerin. He attended Philadelphia College of Pharmacy and Science, studying analytical chemistry, and returning to the Experimental Station in 1926.

Interviewers: Norman B. Wilkinson and Joseph P. Monigle in Wilmington, Delaware
Friel describes his childhood in Wilmington, including his school years, fairs in the city, explosions and fires in the mills, and his career at DuPont. He also describes his impressions of various members of the du Pont family.
