Scope and Content:

This series contains images that document the activities of both the St. Paul and Philadelphia plants of the UNIVAC Division of the Sperry Rand Corporation. This includes the UNIVAC File Computers; Solid State computers; Scientific computers; Real-Time Computer Systems; UNIVAC 1100 series; 9000 series; 80 and 90 System families; and workstations. This series also contains images of the various computers that were developed for the United States Armed Forces, such as the Athena missile guidance system, the Naval Tactical Data System, the 418 Field Army Ballistic Missile Defense System, and the UNIVAC 1206, 1218, 1230 and 1240 computers.

Like the other series in this collection, this series is comprised of numerous accretions deposited over time to this repository. Each accretion has a unique origin and contains images that were collected for a specific purpose. The accretions in this series include Industrial Design images and Public Relations images from both St. Paul and Philadelphia/Blue Bell. They document the design work performed at the Univac Engineering Center (UEC) in Blue Bell, the Sperry Research Center in Sudbury, Massachusetts, and the manufacturing work that went on at various plants throughout the United States, with a special emphasis on the work done by the Sperry Federal Systems Division in St. Paul, Minnesota.

This series also contains images used in the endeavors of the Sperry UNIVAC marketing department. This includes images that were selected to appear in various product literature publications, as well as those images that were not selected.
