Abstract

World's Columbian Exposition, the Chicago World's Fair which was staged from May to October, 1893, commemorated 400 years since Columbus's New World arrival. These two stereographs show two different views of the lagoon area at the World's Columbian Exposition.

Historical Note

World's Columbian Exposition, the Chicago World's Fair which was staged from May to October, 1893, commemorated 400 years since Columbus's New World arrival. The architecture was a significant part of the event itself; the buildings included large exhibition halls and buildings representing many states.

Scope and Content

These two stereographs show two different views of the lagoon area at the World's Columbian Exposition. They were issued by different companies. #8013, James M. Davis (New York, St. Louis, Liverpool, Toronto, Sydney) and the other #390 Griffith & Griffith (Philadelphia, St. Louis, Liverpool).

Captions: "Long may it wave, Columbian Exposition" (American flag at end of lagoon) and "Bird's eye view of Lagoon. World's Fair."
