Historical Note
Produced from 1966 to 1977, “The Lou Gordon Program” was a 90-minute television show, that aired Saturday and Sunday nights on WKBD-TV station located in Detroit, Michigan. Host, Lou Gordon (1917-1977) interviewed authors Joseph Daughen and Peter Binzen about their book, "Wreck of the Penn Central.” The program aired the weekend of May 18, 1974 and May 19, 1974.
On May 24, 1974 Lee C. Hanson, Vice President and General Manager of WKBD-TV wrote a letter to David C. Bevin and enclosed two audio reels of the program. David C. Bevin was Chairman of the Finance Committee at Penn Central, an American railroad company headquartered in Philadelphia that operated from 1968 until 1976. In 1970, Penn Central went bankrupt, causing controversy.

This collection contains two audio reels of a television program, "The Lou Gordon Program." The episode is of host, Lou Gordon interviewing Joseph Daughen and Peter Binzen about their book, "Wreck of the Penn Central." The reels were sent to David C. Bevin of Penn Central from Lee C. Hanson of WKBD-TV. Hanson writes in a letter to Bevin that he has enclosed the reels because Gordon mentions Bevin while answering a call-in question from a viewer. The collection includes the letter and envelope.
