Abstract

The Gallery at Market East is a shopping gallery in Philadelphia. This collection consists of a publicity packet produced to promote The Gallery at Market Street East. The packet includes two renderings of the Gallery area, and four brochures which contains a map, statistical information about the area, and press releases about stores.

Historical Note

The Gallery at Market East is a shopping gallery in Philadelphia. "Market Street East is Philadelphia's largest urban redevelopment project, covering a 28-block area east of City Hall. Planned in 1958, the project...will extend from 8th Street on the east to 11th Street on the west." (From text in the packet which was prepared by the Rouse Company and JCP Realty.)

Scope and Content

This collection consists of a publicity packet produced to promote The Gallery at Market Street East. The packet consists of several pieces. There are two photographs. One is a labeled drawing of the Market Street East mall and neighboring buildings including City Hall. The other is a street level sketch of the Gallery expansion of 1983 with elevated walkway over 10th Street. There are also three brochures: a map listing the 224 stores in the Gallery shopping mall; a map of Center City showing the location of Market Street East and the Gallery; a brochure giving project data (square footage and site plan); a printed sheet about the trade area (population statistics). In addition there is thirty press releases about stores, the developers, construction, etc. which were issued by the Rouse Company, the site developers.
