Abstract

The heyday of cigar band artwork spans from the late nineteenth to early twentieth centuries with many of the companies adopting pictorial displays as well as text. The bands were produced through lithographic printing methods. This item is an album of cigar bands collected in the early twentieth century.

1 album : color ; 16 pages , 4.5 x 7 in. Two pages are loose. It contains approximately 194 cigar bands.

Historical Note

Cigar band label collecting was popular around the turn of the twentieth century. Many labels had artwork in addition to text. The artwork was done through the process of lithography. Cigar label artwork came to an end with the economic pressures of the Great Depression and the increased popularity of cigarettes.

Scope and Content

This item is a small sixteen page album designed for saving cigar bands. Cigar bands is embossed on the front cover. The album is filled with numerous examples of cigar bands.
