Abstract:   DuPont Performance Coatings, Inc., was created in March 1999 by the merger of DuPont Automotive Finishes, a business unit of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company, and Herberts GmbH, the coatings subsidiary of the German chemical firm Hoechst AG. Automotive Finishes had once been part of DuPont's Automotive Products Dept., and DuPont had a long history in automotive finishes. Every year, DuPont invited users of the company's automotive paint products to submit photos of their work. Winners were chosen and their projects were featured in an annual calendar. The vehicles pictured in this calendar won the DuPont Top Gun Award for 1997. All are painted with DuPont Company automobile finishes.

Abstract:   The Dallin Aerial Surveys Company produced aerial photographs for newspapers, businesses, municipalities, and private individuals. The company was founded in 1924 by Colonel J. (John) Victor Dallin (1897-1991), a Royal Flying Corps-trained pilot who served in World War One. During WWI he became involved in aerial photography on a reconnaissance mission during the latter stages of the war. This collection consists of over 13,000 aerial photographs primarily of the Mid-Atlantic region taken between 1925 and 1941. The company made vertical and oblique aerial photographs of factories, private estates, schools, country clubs, towns, airports, rivers, and many other sites and some news events of the day. The subject with the largest number of views is the city of Philadelphia.

Abstract:   David Harrison Cope (1913-2001) held a lifelong interest in railroads and, in particular, steam locomotives. He began collecting photographs at an early age. This collection primarily consists of black and white photographs and negatives of steam locomotives from a variety of railroads, but it includes some other rolling stock, station photos, related railroad items such as coaling stations and some street railroads, interurbans, and trolley images.

Abstract:   The David Sarnoff Library was established at the David Sarnoff Research Center in Princeton, New Jersey in 1967 as a showcase for the accomplishments of long-time Radio Corporation of America (RCA) head David Sarnoff. After five years of activity, the Library was largely moribund until the arrival of Alex Magoun as Curator (later Executive Director) in 1998. Under his leadership, the Library expanded its mission to include the history of RCA in general and the David Sarnoff Research Center in particular. Due to lack of funding, the David Sarnoff Library closed in 2009. The collection documents the creation and evolution of the Library through board of directors records, correspondence, reports, oral histories, and photographs.

Abstract:   David Sarnoff (1891-1971) was the iconic leader of the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) for most of the company's history. For many years the only Jewish executive in the communications field, Sarnoff was highly influential in the development of radio and television. The focus of the David Sarnoff papers is the original David Sarnoff Collection assembled by Sarnoff to celebrate his career. However, the papers also include the extensive photographic, publicity, and administrative files created by his staff at RCA and a substantial audiovisual component.

Abstract:   The David Sarnoff Research Center (DSRC) in Princeton, New Jersey was the central research organization for the Radio Corporation of America (RCA) from 1942 to 1987. Following GE’s acquisition of RCA in 1986, the DSRC was donated to SRI International as a contract research laboratory. Renamed the Sarnoff Corporation in 1997, it was integrated into SRI in 2011. The records document the pioneering research of its scientists and trace the history of the organization from its establishment into the 21st century.

Abstract:   The Chicago Railroad Fair was the first exposition after the Second World War and the last exposition that featured railroads as its theme. It marked the centennial of the arrival of railroads to Chicago and their role in westward expansion. This is a postcard of the narrow gauge Deadwood Central train that carried visitors around the fairground.

Abstract:   The Delaware Coach Company was originally incorporated as the Wilmington & Philadelphia Traction Company on June 25, 1910, and operated an electric street railway line from Wilmington, Delaware, to Chester, Pennsylvania, and to Philadelphia. Throughout the early twentieth century, the company purchased stock in and leased numerous electric railway, transportation, and utilities companies in the Wilmington and Chester areas. In 1941, it changed its name to the Delaware Coach Company as trackless trolleys and buses replaced electric streetcars. Included are official documents and correspondence; personnel and financial records; public relations files; land deeds; legislation; labor agreements and contracts; equipment, fare, and route policies; ordinances; minute books, and other miscellaneous material created by Delaware Coach and its predecessor electric streetcar companies.

Abstract:   This collection is three photographs of the razing of Delaware Memorial Hospital. When originally founded in 1887, it was called Homeopathic Hospital since that was the branch of medicine that was practiced there. In 1940, it was renamed Memorial Hospital. It continued to serve the public also providing allopathic care until it was razed in 1985.

William duPont, Jr. and Donald P. Ross designed and built Delaware Park Racetrack. Phillip T. Harris of Media, Pennsylvania was hired as the architectural engineer. Abstract:   Pierre S. du Pont incorporated the Delaware School Auxiliary Association in 1919 to finance the construction of new school buildings throughout Delaware. Between 1918 and 1940 he donated $5,000,000 to build some 120 schools. This collection contains photographs, almost all exterior, of 114 public elementary and secondary schools in Delaware.

Abstract:   Henry Disston was born in England in 1819 and emigrated to Philadelphia in1833. In 1840, he began a small saw business in the city, and in 1855, Disston brought steel workers from England to open the first mill in the United States devoted to producing steel for saws. The collection consists of images copied from The Disston History, a genealogy of the Disston family and a company history of Henry Disston and Sons, Inc., compiled by family members and genealogist Elizabeth Satterthwaite in 1920.

Abstract:   A match cover or a matchbook cover is a thin piece of cardboard that is folded around a set of match sticks. Chemist, John Walker (1781-1859) invented the match stick in 1827. Joshua Pusey (1842-1906?), an inventor and attorney patented matchbook covers in 1892. Within a short time hotels, restaurants, airlines, and all kinds of stores began advertising using matchbook covers. This is a small collection of matchbook covers consists advertising hotels, restaurants, banks, elections, products, and organizations. Most of the matchbook covers are from Texas and New Mexico with a few coming from other states.

The Du Pont Story is a historical drama which tells the story of the DuPont Company through the administrations of the company's first ten presidents. Dixie Fuller) research binder, primarily containing photographic reproductions of portraits and silhouettes of du Pont family members that are portrayed in the film.

He served with the rank of lieutenant under Wilson's personal physician, Admiral Cary T. Grayson. This small collection contains materials relating to his work while serving as aide to President Wilson during the Peace Conference in France, 1919.

Abstract:   E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company. Originally established as a black powder manufactory in 1802 by Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and his son Eleuthère Irénée du Pont. Throughout the 1900s and 1910s, the company shifted its focus away from gunpowder production and towards chemistry innovations. This collection consists of five large poster boards which created displays of original magazine advertisements of various DuPont Company products such as Smokeless gunpowder, DUCO, Pyralin, synthetic fibers, Conoco oil, lucite, anti-freeze, cellophane and carpet fibers. This collection also contains one film.

Throughout the 1900s and 1910s, the company shifted its focus away from gunpowder production and towards chemistry innovations. This collection contains twenty photographs of DuPont Company exhibits and exhibit areas in Atlantic City, New Jersey in the Chalfonte-Haddon Hall, as well as exterior views in the vicinity of the Hall and views of the boardwalk at North Carolina Avenue. Chalfonte-Haddon Hall was a hotel and convention center that had its start as two Quaker boarding houses built in the 1860s.

Abstract:   The Savannah River Plant manufactured basic materials required in the production of nuclear weapons, specifically plutonium and tritium. The complex was comprised of five reactors, two chemical separation plants, a heavy water extraction plant, a nuclear fuel and target fabrication facility, a tritium extraction facility and waste management facilities. Additionally, the site included research laboratories, offices, worker housing, and other ancillary facilities. This collection contains photographs, glass plate negatives, lantern slides, negatives, transparencies and 16mm films that document the construction and development of the Savannah River Plant complex between 1951 and 1982, with a bulk of the materials created between 1951 and 1972. The collection is organized into seven series: Construction and progress; Technical photographs; Project photographs; Voorhees Walker Foley & Smith architectural renderings; Speeches and presentation lantern slides; Transparencies; and Films.

Defender Photo Supply, an early leader in the manufacturing of black and white sheet film, plates, printing paper and instructional books, was purchased by the DuPont Company in 1945. The DuPont Imaging Systems Plant, in Rochester, New York, manufactured photographic film and chemicals and ceased operations in 1995. This collection contains four display photographic prints made on DuPont Defender photographic paper. The views are all scenic and also included is an aerial photograph of the Rochester, New York plant of the DuPont Company's Photo Products Department.

Abstract:   The Textile Fibers Department of the DuPont Company, established in 1936 as the Rayon Department, specialized in researching and developing synthetic fibers for fabrics such as Rayon, Nylon, Teflon, Corian, and Kevlar. This collection primarily contains video tapes (VHS and U-Matic). Most of the content on the VHS videotapes are different than that on the U-Matic videotapes, there are a few duplicate videos that are in both formats. The videotapes content are employee training videos related to management, customer service and safety, as well as, informational videos about product and services, company history and events. Additionally the collection contains photographs, slides, advertising and promotional materials.

Abstract:   Chemists at DuPont’s Parlin, New Jersey laboratory produced a pyroxylin lacquer in 1920 called Viscolac and improved upon it in the following years and renamed it Duco. In the late 1920s Dulux was developed, which was an alkyd finish and had a higher gloss finish; a matte version of Dulux was also developed. Abstract:   E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont company. The company was established in 1802 by Pierre Samuel du Pont de Nemours and his son Éleuthère Irénée du Pont the company began with the production of gunpowder. This item is a 1901 advertising calendar with an illustration showing a hunter crossing a hillside with two dogs.

Abstract:   DuPont Street was one of the oldest streets in San Francisco's Chinatown district, it was named in honor of Commodore Samuel Francis du Pont (1803-1865) of the United States Navy. Dupont Street was changed to Grant Avenue in 1886. This print is a view of Dupont Street, in the Chinatown area of San Francisco, with an insert image of a "Chinese Vegetable Pedler."

Abstract:   Originally called The Playhouse, the DuPont Theatre was the brain child of three top executives of E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company who realized that Wilmington needed a facility cultural as well as business purposes. The DuPont Theatre records consist primarily of public relations and advertising materials related to the theater's operation. As such, they present a sequence of changing tastes in popular entertainment in a medium-sized American city.

Abstract:   E.I. du Pont de Nemours & Company is a chemical company more commonly referred to as the DuPont company. The company was established in 1802 and began with the production of gunpowder. Throughout the 1900s and 1910s, the company shifted its focus away from gunpowder production and towards chemistry innovations. During the 1910s, the DuPont Company decided to enter the film and photographic supply market. In 1924, it entered into a joint venture with Pathé Exchange, called DuPont-Pathé Film Manufacturing Corporation. This collection consists of a booklet with seven short strips of tinted 35mm motion picture film stock.
